That FF use spiked during the holiday jibes with reports that IE usage is strongest in corporate work environments (particularly IE6 usage).

Seriously, not a single mention of the fact that this last minute announcement just happens to coincide with the same day that Microsoft is releasing Windows Mobile 6.5 along with 30 new WinMo phones?

Adobe spells out iPhone apps limitations

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-10368171-64.html?part=rss&subj=news&tag=2547-1_3-0-5

Here's a thought - why not go with a mobile platform that already supports Flash, that's open enough to build any functionality you want, and that's been able to do everything the iPhone can do for the last 8 years, like, oh, say... Windows Mobile? Could the fact that Microsoft is the world's worst marketer of their own products possibly be a contributing factor? Ask any grandma walking down the street what an iPhone is and she'll be able to tell you. Ask her what a Pocket PC is and then bask in the blank stare you'll receive.

My Mac growing pains: Week 1

I've spent a week with a MacBook Pro (more or less), and so far it's love/hate, and honestly, mostly hate, but before I get flamed, a certain amount is due to my still thinking in "Windows mode", and a person will always become frustrated if they're used to doing things one way and then have to change. Also, it's been only one week, and in my experience it takes anywhere from a couple weeks to 2-3 months of day-to-day use before you can say you really know something.

I've got a stickie on my Mac desktop of things I miss from Windows, with a space below each for instructions on how to do the same thing on Mac, if it can be done. I'm really really really missing the Home and End keys, and the Page Up/Down keys sort of.

On the other hand, I LOVE the trackpad on the MacBook Pro, so there's some love, but honestly, after one week, whenever I discover a feature about the Mac that I like, rather than making me want a Mac, it makes me want to figure out how to add that feature to my Windows system.

So time will tell. Trying to keep an open mind, as best I can...

Verizon: Can You Hear Me Now

http://gigaom.com/2009/07/13/verizon-to-mobile-developers-can-you-hear-me-now/

Question that I can't seem to get answered - is Verizon going to somehow disable the ability to download and install software from anywhere but the Verizon App Store? I typically get the apps for my WinMo phone directly from the developer's site. Verizon can stick an app store icon in my Programs menu if it wants, but I want to continue to be able to open up PocketIE, type "windows mobile freeware" into Google, click the link to a developer's website, download a cab file, and install it. If I can no longer do that, then there's no point in staying on WinMo anymore.
